Website Deerfoot Mall

Deerfoot Mall is a shopping center located in northeast Calgary, Alberta, opening in 1981. The mall is located in one of the fastest growing quadrants of the city. Just off of Highway 2 at 64th Avenue NE, its location makes for makes easy accessibility for both rural and urban markets. Upon its original opening, the mall's anchor tenants were Woolco, Canada Safeway, and The Bay, along with a number of independent retailers. In the 1990s the Bay and Safeway locations closed, with the Bay eventually replaced by a Sears Canada location and, after years of being left empty or used by different businesses, in the early 2000s the Safeway site was remodelled into a Winners location. In 2005 the mall underwent renovations. The renovations coincided with the mall moving away from hosting a mix of independent and chain businesses and more towards the "outlet mall" format featuring mainly chain outfits. The mall has introduced retailers such as Mexx, Bluenotes, Liz Claiborne, Fitness Source and EB Games. The mall currently features 80 retailers, including three anchor stores: Winners and Sears. In the mid-2000s, Wal-Mart (which bought Woolco in the 1980s) moved out of the mall proper and into a standalone location in the southeast parking lot, which expanded into a Super Center in January 2010. Its former location became a SportChek sporting goods store and has also housed other businesses. Along with the name brand stores, the mall also offers a wide range of one of a kind, unique retailers. Navigation of the mall is fluid and linear. Deerfoot Mall uses a “T” shape layout with one level with guest services near center court. The south leg of the T splits into two branches near Winners, with the main food court along the southeast leg and professional services along the southwest leg. The food court features a five-pin bowling center and 14 food vendors, including A&W, Subway, Taco Time, Cinnzeo, Thaï Express, Edo Japan, and Koryo. Pizza is available at the bowling center. Deerfoot Mall is owned and operated by Ivanhoe Cambridge. In 2009 Deerfoot Mall was accredited with the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) BOMA BESTt level 3 certification.
